In Quiet Contempt

cynthilla Jazz isn't just instruments played wildly. Jazz is something instruments enact upon their player wildly. The swing and blue notes, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation fit exactly this sense of motion. In Quiet Contempt progressively shares the soft bend of a solo sax note to energetic children playing in the park. This is newness, with classic taste. Subtle people takes us back to jazz jazz. Not the girl from ipanema anymore, this sister is woke! Favorite track: Moonlighting an Orchid.
Demonic Sweaters

Demonic Sweaters Very interesting stuff, which comes as no surprise from Subtle People. To call this jazz isn't exactly accurate, but I wouldn't call it pop either, nor ambient, but somewhere in the landscape of all three would be more appropriate. At times I feel a later Talk Talk vibe, crossed with David Sylvian, and even Sade occasionally. Consistency in production and style is very strong on this LP, probably stronger than any of Gracer's other solo works. there's a strong Film Noir atmospheric vibe going on here and overall the album conveys a real sense of depth and subtlety. This is a great achievement. Highly recommended.

I’m still in denial I’ve been for a while I made you no commitments …my heart, so inconsistent But moonlight is still sunlight through a veil, little girl Go, you won’t grow here little flower, little orchid I offered no real foundation Your roots soon grew impatient Our ground bared no fruition Now bonds face extinction …how you've won, and I'm lost You were right about it all Now your soil is rich and I'm left broken There's no garden within these walls No garden grows within these walls Go, you won’t grow here little flower, little orchid So moonlight isn't sunlight to the world, to a girl Go, you’ll grow back again little flower, little orchid ...little orchid I’m still in denial I’ll be for a while I made you no commitments …my heart, so inconsistent

Did anybody tell you to get home safe that night? I wonder if you thought you could come back anytime Can you see the line where love and world divide from some new point of view? Did people start to scare you into going twice as hard? Maybe someone double-dared you and we all missed that part They may say hey Joulz your view's so simplified...

He'll take you 'round the world You'll claim it a bore Just 'cause you're next to someone doesn't mean that you're not alone oh how right you'd like to see yourself to be you weren’t right for me you might land above the world and live there happily you’ll still only ever be the wrong one for me you've played your final hand our deck's out of cards so how long can we afford to play these games we play with our hearts?

I linger in yesterdays but yesterday’s over I’ve made my bed this time and disposed of all the rubbish and how yesterdays linger I linger in all my yesterdays how yesterdays can linger each time I face the world I want to add to it my love my grace my momentum I’m sleeping so peacefully now I’ll be opening up my blinds again
